Empty the Shelters Campaign: A Lifeline for Pima County Pets

As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, the Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is gearing up for a heartwarming initiative that aims to find loving homes for pets in need. From now until October 15, all pets at PACC are free to adopt as part of the Empty the Shelters campaign, sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation. This initiative not only helps reduce the number of animals in shelters but also encourages community members to consider adopting a furry friend.

A Special Offer for Dog Adopters

In addition to the free adoption fees, PACC is rolling out an exciting promotion for dog adopters. From October 11 to October 13, anyone who adopts a dog weighing 40 pounds or more will receive a free crate to help ease the transition into their new home. To accommodate potential adopters, PACC will extend its hours on October 12, remaining open until 6 p.m. This extra time allows families and individuals to visit the shelter and meet their future companions.

    The Current Situation at PACC

At present, PACC is home to over 500 dogs and 100 cats, all eagerly awaiting their forever homes. Unfortunately, the number of incoming pets is surpassing the number of adopters, creating a pressing need for community involvement. PACC’s Director, Monica Dangler, emphasizes the importance of finding homes for these animals and highlights the role the community can play in this effort.

“Our community truly can help Pima County pets on both sides of the equation,” Dangler stated. She encourages residents to assist in reuniting lost pets with their families by keeping ID tags on their pets and spreading the word about the shelter’s initiatives.

    Free Customized Pet ID Tags

To further support pet owners, PACC is currently offering free customized pet ID tags to all pet owners, courtesy of the Friends of Pima Animal Care Center. This initiative aims to reduce the number of lost pets and ensure that they can be quickly returned to their families. An ID tag can make a significant difference in reuniting pets with their owners, and PACC is committed to promoting responsible pet ownership.

    Visiting PACC

PACC is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road and has convenient hours for potential adopters. The shelter is open on:

    • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Wednesday: 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Weekends: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For those who want to stay updated on the latest news, promotions, and adoptable pets, PACC is active on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Daily updates provide insights into the shelter’s status and highlight pets looking for homes.

    How You Can Help

Even if you’re not in a position to adopt or foster a pet, there are still numerous ways to contribute to the welfare of animals in the community. Sharing information about PACC’s initiatives, volunteering your time, or even donating supplies can make a significant impact. The shelter relies on community support to continue its mission of caring for and finding homes for pets in need.

    Conclusion

The Empty the Shelters campaign is a wonderful opportunity for individuals and families to welcome a new pet into their lives without the financial burden of adoption fees. With the added incentive of free crates for larger dogs and the availability of customized ID tags, PACC is making strides to ensure that pets find their forever homes.
